AI is actually cool, but AI companies, well...

Just a quick one here. I wanted to say something about the AI hype that has been growing recently, and its impact on our lives. By saying ‘our lives’ I mean people who love DIY technology.

It seems that everywhere I go I can see complaints that AI is stupid, AI is evil, AI is that and that…whatever you can think of, and I mean things that are bad. But there is something bigger here. I fully agree that the AI hype made life of a DIY technology passionate really hard, I know I am one of them…I need to get few more workstations and RAM and some NVMEs, but every time I look at prices…well I think if it’s cheaper to buy a house.

The thing is, I see the problem, I see why people are angry, but I do not understand why is nobody doing anything concrete against AI companies, everyone is yelling at the AI chatbots, that did nothing wrong. This is like yelling at your dog in the morning because they pooped on the carpet, rather than realizing that you should have gotten up and went for a walk with your dog. What I am trying to say is, that the AI bot, agents etc. are tools, and very useful in my opinion. I completely stopped writing lines of code, well not exactly, but I let my AI Agent do the work that would normally take me months, I do check the code, I do test etc. I make sure all works and it’s up to standard, but I do not blame the Agent for what the AI companies did! They are the villain here.

AI companies are the real villains, and should be held accountable for what is happening with the current prices, usage of resources, jobs lost… Not AI tools.

I am pushing my representatives to do something about this, to create legislation, to push for super high taxes for AI companies, even for super high taxes for companies that replace people with an AI Agent. AI is a tool, that makes or should make our life so much more easy, and fun. I can do so many projects from my Quest (to do list, yes I call it ‘The Quest’) without sacrificing any of the fun things I want to do in life.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is, please if you are angry about the things that are happening (I AM!), then rather than being the ‘old man yelling at a cloud’, do something that can make actual change, like yelling at the tech billionaires that are abusing everything and everyone for personal gain, stop buying subscriptions from such companies, and if you need to use AI Tools because they just make your life better, like I do, use Open Source models or pick companies that have some level of dignity…if that’s even possible.

Let’s fight the correct fight, not the wrong one.
